Format and Locations

Product Design meets three hours in person once per week in Venture Lab at Tangen Hall. Most weeks we will begin class in room 708, but we will often spend time in the Studios located immediately to your right as you enter the building. We will start class in 708 unless otherwise indicated. The three-hour format allows us to do many hands-on activities using the tools and equipment in Venture Lab. Think of this as the lab component of the course. Some weeks a portion of the time will be unstructured, allowing you to work on your projects. All lecture content is delivered asynchronously by video or audio. You must view or listen to the lecture material prior to your studio session each week. The weekly lecture content is organized as a Canvas "quiz," with a series of chunks and a true/false or multiple-choice question for each chunk. This format is intended to keep your attention and allow efficient granting of credit for viewing the lectures. We hope you agree that this hybrid format is an improvement on the lecture and recitation format we have used in the past.

Our first in-person studio session is the week of January 24th. You are responsible for completing the assignments in the pre-work module prior to the first session. The pre-work is substantial, and includes learning the basics of Rhino, a 3D modeling software, which can take time to get comfortable in - please plan accordingly.
